Build tonight's plan

Decide it now.

Use realistic choices. You can leave the drink limit and budget blank if they are not part of your night.

What makes a useful night out plan?A useful plan covers when you will leave, what you want to spend or drink, how you will get home and why tomorrow matters. Make the choices before the night becomes busy.

Why there are two times

Your target leave time is the exit you want. The hard stop is the later point you do not want to cross. Giving them different jobs makes a small delay visible without turning it into an abandoned plan.

Protect the journey home first

Check the route and last service before going out. Keep enough charge and money for the option you chose, with a backup if that option fails. A unit total or drink count cannot tell you whether you are safe or legal to drive. If you plan to drink, choose another way home.

Use a plan that fits the night

  1. Keep it realistic. A smaller plan you will follow is more useful than an impressive one you will ignore.
  2. Tell someone. Sharing your leave time can make the exit easier when a group wants to stay.
  3. Check in early. Notice drift before the last train, last round or last part of the budget.
  4. Change it consciously. If the night changes, make a new decision instead of letting the plan disappear.
